About Mingus Amungus
Mingus Amungus was founded by Beach Dad Miles Perkins in 1993. Using the inspiration of Charles Mingus’ music as a foundation, but also operating outside the confine of traditional jazz, the group quickly became a Bay Area favorite at local clubs, jazz festivals, and concert halls. Mingus Amungus includes Miles Perkins on acoustic bass, Gavin Distasi, trumpet, Joshi Marshall, saxophones, Marty Wehner, trombone, Steve Rossi, drums, and Martin G. Reynolds provides vocals. Caitlin Reynolds will all sing with the band at the Winter Jazz Night. The all-star band weaves its way through Mingus’ charts, as well as their own original compositions, with hard-hitting be-bop, funk, and classical influences. The band then sprinkles San Francisco’s native acid jazz flavor into the mix with a variety of lyricists and singers, thereby bringing Mingus’ work into a contemporary age. The group has toured the globe, playing clubs and festivals and was recognized with a BAMMIE for Most Outstanding Jazz Club Band.

Please mark your calendars for this Sunday – in lieu of a Grounds and Garden clean up day this spring, we need to take apart the planters and the entire garden in preparation for the move to Emeryville. Some of the planters will go with us, and the rest will be put into storage by the movers. The more help the faster it will go. Please come at 10AM, and bring any of the following tools:
- shovels
- socket set
- cordless drill
- pickup truck
- ibuprofen
Thanks and we’ll see you Sunday at the garden at 10:00. Please let me know if you have any questions.
Bob
